Merry Xmas, Happy Holidays and we are off to Key West

Published December 25, 2015   Posted in Having some fun

Whatever it is that you’re doing this day, I wish you Merry Christmas if you celebrate, or Happy Holidays if you don’t. And if you refuse to acknowledge the holidays altogether, then hell, enjoy the living daylights out of whatever you’re doing today!
A Key West fish

The fishin’ is good in Key West!

For my wife and I, this is our last day in Arizona before we head out to Key West, FL to spend a weekย with my folks. Actually, yesterday was our last full day, as we’re catching a plane early today and spending the majority of the daylight hours traveling out East.

This will be the third time I’ve visited beautiful and warm Key West. For my wife, it’ll be her first visit.

If you’ve never been to Key West, it’s a wonderful place to visit, complete with crystal clear water, warm days and all kinds of ocean adventures. I might give stand-up paddle boarding a try, hoping I don’t make myself out to look like too much of an idiot in the process. No promises.

While we’re gone, I have a post lined up for next Monday about how we’re starting to monitor our data usage at home through our Internet connection in anticipation of the limited cell service we’ll have on the road. Believe it or not, most people use muchย more data than they think they do. I’ll show you the process I used to figure all that out.

Then on the 31st and 1st (of 2016), I’m running our reflection pieces on 2015. As I wrote about last year, I hate resolutions, but I do enjoy reflecting on the past year, just like my wife. It gives me the opportunity to learn from my mistakes and hopefully repeat the things that went right in a very informal, nonjudgmental way!

Have a wonderful week and a happy new year. See you awesome people in the flip side!

  1. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year – I’ve enjoyed reading your blog this year!

  2. Enjoy Key West. I’ve only been once when a cruise I was on stopped there for 8 hours. I loved it and definitely plan on spending more time there in the future. Happy Holidays.

  3. Have fun in the Keys! I’ve been to South Florida half a dozen times for fun or work but never made it past Miami and down to the Keys. That’s a deficiency I hope to remedy some day! ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s worth the trip! But, there is no getting around the fact that it’s a long, long way down here, especially on a little two-lane road (Route 1). If there is ever an accident, traffic will back up for miles. It took us an extra hour or so yesterday getting down here due to several accidents. Freaking people not paying attention to what they are doing.

Enjoy your trip! What a convenient place to have family. ๐Ÿ™‚ We have only been to Key West once but it was lovely – rented bikes and had delicious Cuban food and drinks. Next time we go I want to snorkel in Dry Tortugas!

We’re probably going to rent motor scooters today, which is something that I always enjoy doing – even as a motorcycle rider, it’s still fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ We haven’t snorkeled here in the Keys, only in Hawaii. We might fix that this time, too.

  5. Enjoy your time off. I’m gearing up for a getaway of our own next week. Also planning on making some time to reflect and make some plans for the new year. Hopefully some good posts from all around on the topic….

  6. Belated Merry Christmas, you guys! I’ve enjoyed seeing your pics on Instagram from Key West, and it looks like you’re having a great time.

Good call checking out your internet usage ahead of time. I know I use TONS of data on my phone especially, mostly for work purposes, but it could be an… interesting… transition when we quit working. Look forward to reading what you have to say about it all.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Merry Christmas to you guys as well! Honestly, I think the data thing is going to be the most difficult part of this entire process because I basically LIVE online. But, we’ll develop new habits and make it work. Flexibility, or something like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Steve,

Make sure you visit some of the lively places on Duval Street. No doubt you will see or meet some interesting characters!

The moped idea would be a great way to get around this small area. If you get a chance, book a snorkeling trip to one of the reefs. We had a blast taking a large catamaran tour trip and enjoying the excellent water and conditions.

    Take care.

Hey Bryan! Yup, we’ve been to Duval Street a LOT, and this vacation was no exception. There’s a new brewery down there called Waterfront Brewery, that was awesome, though not on Duval. ๐Ÿ™‚
